wondering if most of AK,Yukon or NWT folk use most piece of moose skin than meat bait(beaver,moose,caribou,...) to baited marten set like Marty M in mountain men and if when use only this kind of skin it's less attractive for whiskey jack and squirrel?

I never use moose hide. I use strictly grouse feathers if I have them. I have also used red squirrel tails in a pinch. I try to avoid anything with meat or anything red showing

I use beaver meat or moose scraps for bait in all my marten boxes. I like to nail a small piece of moose hide to the trunk of a tree in my cubby sets if I have it. It also works good for marten with the new Koro traps.

A small piece of moosehide with a bit of lure in a cubby(suspended like a castor in a hayball) will take lynx.
Some guys that don't trap beaver(some FN trappers)and just trap marten use a piece of moosehide for bait for marten. It works fine early season for marten but no good when the weather gets real cold.

Boco, why do some of the FN trappers not trap beaver. Are they just smarter than the rest of us, or is there some other reason.

Mostly beaver for me, though if I have duck parts, I use them. I don't hunt waterfowl, so have to scrounge that. Salmon heads work, also.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

Duck carcasses are great, i also like to use a 2x2 piece of deer hide. Nailed to end of pole set..with castor ...have yet to catch a bird. Best to prepare these before season..taint and freeze.

I use pieces of my dried dog salmon or whitefish when I start trapping as the weather is warm and then switch to bow saw cut steaks of frozen rotten whole salmon or whitefish when it's colder. That stuff smells at 50 below. I do have it eaten by whiskey jacks but then again that exposes the inner fish and keeps it smelling so not really a big problem. Sure be easier to use feathers of moose hide so should try it (after 45 years marten trapping maybe I don't want to know there was a easier, better way)

yes the fat fish is a good bait, I use pike and it lasts a long time, it's never too late to learn my dear Stan.In eastern part of america we have a lot of beaver but it's true at 40 or 50 below not a lot odor from bait, that's why we use strong and loud lure, lure and bait are interactive in trapping
