Good meat saw works great too on beaver tails and chunking up fish.

The beaver tail oil (BTO) is a lure. A good one too in my opinion. Mild smell. Not unpleasant.

I trap for fun. I skin 'em for the money!

I use a hatchet as well. Once I think the tail chunks have give about all the oil I can get out of them (without drawing in the watery fluid) I try to remove as many bones as possible and grind the remaining tail chunks into an excellent bait. Coon seem to like it just as much as the coyotes and fox do.

I let mine render for 3 years the second and third run of oil is thicker and a tad stronger in odor as worm stated the left over make a descent bait I use a corn knife and hammer and chunk mine froze. a hatchet works as well. My dog gets a belly ache when I use the hatchet! Chunks fly every were! I cut bone and all some don't makers choice. Removing the bone is to tedious. After rendering for 3 years the bones are very soft

I use a $2 thrift store elec carving knife and cut in from the sides about 1" apart, then come down the bone so the chunks fall right into the bucket.
The blue clamp is wired to a brake rotor so I can pull up/taught for cutting ease
