I get the SAD, worse when I'm not trapping. I get gloomy and irritable...more irritable. I get outside in the sun as much as I can, I need to start taking vitamin D, try not to be too much of a butthole unless it's warranted.

Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

If you work everyday indoors it can get bad. It don't effect the trappers much, or people that get out regular. Like AKN said, need to get out every day. And that can be difficult when it very cold or very stormy, deep snow etc.
Make a point to get out in the sunshine when ever you can. Exercise helps too. Keep bright lights on in the house .

Depression IS the symptoms of low seratonin. Look up the DSM V Criteria for a depressive episode. Take a real objective look at yourself, and see if you meet the criteria. If you don't, then which criteria do you meet - and try to do something about them. There are tons of things you can do, but essentially, it all means fighting those symptoms. There is no shame in being depressed - so don't avoid talking about it. Shame says you are alone. You ain't. There are multitudes.

1. Meds
2. Therapy
3. Reading self help books - primarily those to do with self-talk (everything begins in the mind). You can essentially do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on yourself.
4. Don't isolate. Be with people and socialize.
5. Build support system.
6. Sunlight -yes.
7. Purpose in hobbies. Trapping, hunting, fishing are key for me. If I don't, I ain't right. That is a lot of different things for different people.
8. Take objective look at job and purpose regarding that.
9. Marriage or SO or lack thereof.
10. Past /History/Trauma/Family of origin
11. Spiritual
12. Exercise
13. Diet
14. DBT

This is a holistic look at what you can do. This is what I do. This is what I teach people to do.
