I have a 17HMR. Does anyone use one on the trapline if so how is it?

I have the .17 WMR. It is too much gun for "putting critters down." It will literally blow up the skull. Would destroy a game bird or a rabbit, unless you are accurate enough to shoot the head off.

I've put coyotes down with it that I have called in predator hunting, and have no doubt I could kill deer sized game if it were legal, and if I wanted to.

I use a .22 short most of the time on the trapline. And something bigger for bears!

The 17 HMR is way too much gun for dispatch. The muzzle velocity is over twice as fast as the 22LR and the muzzle energy is over 60% greater. Certainly not what I would choose
