Not all that have problems with a public school or take their kids out of the public schools are disrespectful burdens in the schools.

Some of us realize our school systems are broke and have lost the moral values that are important to raise a respectful family.

I don't need boys dressed up in dresses carrying out sex scenes which the principal decided was appropriate for young kids to watch.

I don't need verbal abuse from power tripping teachers directed to my family just because they are mad they didn't get the raise they wanted.

I don't need democratic teachers pushing their agendas onto my kids.

What I do need and want and do teach at home is respect and small town values. I would bet way more families home school kids for positive reasons compared to doing cause they were bad acting kids.

Home school!

I'm sure Democrats don't like it because they have less access to your kids.

It's tough! Takes a lot of commitment to do it right. But there are tons of resources for parents and guardians who would pursue this.

Kids are a blank check when you are given them. You should be greatly concerned as to who is filling that check out!

I homeschooled both of my children. Son is a junior in collegewith a 3.84 GPA, looking to graduate with a double major in business and a minor in Economics. Daughter in first year, graphic design with a 3.9 GPA.

Still have people that come to me and say how sad they are that my kids never got a real education...........

Lol

I'll be happy to just have like minded children when I'm 60 that I can stand to be around. But yes, most don't understand that when home school I'd done correctly. That no other form of mass education holds a candle to it. None!

I think most parents are intimidated by it and don't think they can do it.

I would love to homeschool my kids. Initially my wife wanted to also but she decided she wasn't upto the task. There's no way financially we can afford private school. I'm glad my kids are in a good school district and currently have great teachers.
Charter schools are another option.

Most rural schools do a fine job of educating kid who want to learn.
From the stuff in your post, it is clear that you know very little about what goes on in public schools and that you have allowed the tin-foil hat folks ta do yer tinkin' fer ya. wink

We home schooled my son through jr high and then sent him back to public. we home schooled our daughter through jr high and sent her back for 9th, she didn't like the way things were going so we charter schooled her for the rest. This is coming from a man whose parents and grandparents were teachers, and in a small town where everybody knew everybody. The schools have changed since we were young. I had my grandmother for a teacher in jr high at the same school i sent my kids to -- i couldn't get away with anything. The hardest part for me and the wife was getting the idea of non public schools past my family of teachers. Looking back I think that the only thing i would change now is that I would have pulled them out earlier. As long as someone addresses the problems of home schooling it works great. If you don't put huge amounts of effort into getting them a well rounded education and socializing them appropriately you will have problems later. My son went through community college and is now working for amazon, and my daughter is at oregon state studying engineering -- The advantage of the charter school we chose is that she basically graduated high school with an associates and was able to spend a year a community college in their transfer degree program, and transferrred to the state college as a junior. Lots of dollars saved in the long run -- do the math and the homework it is worth it.

Good for you. Our son and daughter-in-law are home-schooling their kids, and they read and do math above their grade level now.

But what do you do when they are high school age, the time when they need socialization but also the most treacherous time when they're growing up?

Jim -- We paid a little extra and had our daughter go to school for band and she also played with the portland youth orchestra -- there are better ways to get them socialized

It's to easy these days with all the co-ops, AAU sports, etc...

We have a good church with lots of kids.

80% of the reason we home school is to keep our kids away from all the stuff that most kids are doing in public school. I don't want my kids to fit in With this current crowd of kids!

Brian -- i have to agree with you completely. There are just so many oportunities today -- even in the charter school they had regularly scheduled "field trips", If your only goal is to keep your kids out of your hair and eventually get them out of the house-- send them to public. If you want them to succeed and be a productive member of society seek other options.

Lol

Don't want them brain washed by liberal regressives imbedded in our educational system!

No drag queen story hour here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My kids will know their gender, be grounded in the faith, and have the option to pursue higher education or help run the family biz by age 17. I like hearing about the other kids above doing so well at such a young age.

It's use to be that what we as a society call helpless kids today. Once ran farms, state finances, and fought wars. Now they eat tide pods, live in parents house till early 30s, and start social "revolutions".

Can't go to bathroom between classes?

Only 3 minutes between classes?

How do they expect you to grab a smoke?

Hall passes to go to the bathroom are nothing new and I went to high school in the 80's. We also had a certain amount of time to get to class although I don't remember how long it was, it wasn't very long. I don't know if I disagree with it. It teaches kids the responsibility of being on time and the discipline of asking for permission from an adult to do something. I doubt a teacher is going to refuse a hall pass to go to the bathroom. A little structure is not a bad thing. Even more so these days.
