Hi all been trapping a marsh that's iced over. I have 30 sets out conibears, #1 long and coil springs on huts. Multiple bank den sets. Setting on sign with air bubbles coming in and out of the banks, huts are the same. Set traps yesterday evening and caught 5 rats out of 34 sets this morning am I missing something? Is this normal for late winter early spring Rat trapping? I understand I could be missing something but man I am frustrated.

Set some colony traps.

sounds like you conis are just a tad off! even I miss from time to time. When in doubt use your hands to find the den entrance And set your coni directly in front of there hole. On huts if its legal your best option is to set trap on there feeeding platform inside the hut. make sure and plug the hole so feeder hut stays active. I have good success using colony traps at feeder huts. multiple family groups will be utilizing them,not only for food but as a breather hole. Our season just went out in feb but I was abel to get a nice collection of pods.
