With Sleepy Creek closing up shop, is anyone going to offer a 3 long spring, other than LPC?

I talked to Minnesota Trapline Products yesterday. The owners of Sleepy Creek plan to retire in 2020.

Does that mean MTP is going to buy them? I wouldn’t complain about that haha

I did not get that impression at all. They said if you want Sleepy Creek traps, buy them soon.

Tom Stalker of Stalker Fabrications made a post recently regarding a conversation that a customer of his had with a member of the Sleepy Creek family who stated that Sleepy Creek will be stopping manufacturing April '19 and anticipate being sold out and done completely by July '19.

Well I’m just throwing out to MTP that I think it’s a perfect investment for them to do for me haha. I already loved the Bridgers before they got bought by MTP and MTP made it even better. Can’t imagine what they would do with the Sleepy Creek #3dls. *cough* maybe an offsetcast jaw option *caugh*.

Customer of mine spoke with owners daughter 2 days ago while ordering traps to be modified

He directly asked 3 questions about manufacturing, stock on hand and selling the business to her

- Manufacturing done in April 2019....from owners daughter

- sell remaining stock on hand....she anticipated done by July 2019....from owners daughter

- A few companies have offered to buy out Sleepy Creek but none of the offers have been accepted...from owners daughter

My only complaint with the Sleepy Creeks is the pans, which is crazy because the look of the pans was one of the main reasons I wanted to give them a try. I wax 'em but moisture still gets down in the pan bolt area where it causes a little bit of rust on the frame. The rust and moisture combined with the cold and I have had it change my pan tension significantly. This is obviously a problem with other makes, but with those I've switched over to PIT pans and that pan tension problem went away. Anyone know if there are PIT pans that'll work on sleepy creek #3 dbl? Kind of a bummer to pay the higher price for a trap and still have to invest in new pans but...?

I just bought a dozen of the Sleepy Creek # 3 double long spring offset traps. The neat thing about the way they make the offset makes the jaw thicker on the offset side. It is like a lamination, or cast jaw. The springs are so strong that I can hardly set them by hand. I haven`t been eating my Wheaties. The one modification that I am going to make is put expand-a-pans on them, they make a big pan for the SC # 3 double long spring.

Great traps. Sad to lose from the few American manufactories.

I guess If Duke bought them out they would be accused of copying the long spring design. LOL

I don’t like the dog and pans on the new SC traps. I pull the pan down to level, and when I turn it loose it backs right back up. I had the same trouble on some new 440 Nitros. (I liked the old SC 1.5 and 1.75 coils when they had the round pans)The pans feel springy or “spongey” or something. They just don’t fire smoothly without some work. Back when they were still reasonably priced I did buy a bunch of the 3 and 4 offset jaws (just jaws) and put them on my old Victors and B&L’s and put Posi trip pans on them . I know that positrip pan setups for longspring traps are $4 to $5 each but they are well worth it. I also know that by the time I spent $8 a trap on my old B&L’s I’ve got about as much in them as I would a new SC longspring but to me they are better and more importantly I have confidence in them.
