Well, I've been wanting a Rem model 760 or 7600 and can't seem to connect. Either they're ragged out or they want a fortune for them. So I started looking at bolts. Does anyone have experience and opinions on the Savage 110 Storm or the Ruger American Predator? Or perhaps another gun in this price range. Thanks, Catch.

Ditto on what white17 said. I know they are not made in America, but as an honest gun enthusiast I can say that my Howa outshot all my standard American rifles out of the box.

Oops, I forgot to mention that if I get a bolt, I shoot left handed. Does Howa offer a rifle for lefty lemons lol?

I don't think so but I know Savage does. I think Tika does as well. Both are good values.

Just checked Tika is available in LH .243 One of the most accurate rifles straight out of the box you will ever see and comparable in price to the Howa. According to Legacies wed page of FAQ no left handed action for the Howa. Their triggers are poor IMO , several people have brought them to me for trigger jobs. I have been able to improve 100% but still not to my satisfaction. Full disclosure, I am very picky about triggers.

I have a sav 11 in 243 for my boy. Fired a 3 shot group with the 85gr tsx bullets that was just over half and inch. Fired another 3 shot group with 100gr spt bullets that around .3" I would have to did the target out. I have many savage rifles and they all shoot less than an inch and most less than half an inch. 3 shots with the 100gr gs was closer to 2". Find what they like and they will shoot.

Howa/Tikka/ Ruger.. No particular order. Personally I insist on a detachable clip, personal reasons, and I like a 26" barrel so I can really stretch the caliber out. Great choice of caliber by the way.

Osky Thanks Osky. I have wanted a model 760 for a long time, it's on my gun bucket list. I just started looking hard for one about a year and a half or so ago. Originally I wanted a 22-250, for ground hogs, coyotes and such. But after reading several threads on here, I figured I'd go with what most suggested which is the .243. It makes since that they are a great caliber from groundhogs to deer. Here in Ohio we can't use a deer rifle and I'm not a rifle guy. So I appreciate all the knowledge I have picked up here. My BIL is wanting to go out of state to deer hunt, so I'm gonna have to find a good shooter.

I shoot left handed. never even fired a left handed gun. just support the rifle with your left (trigger hand) take your right off the forend and work the bolt. it is 100% just as fast.

Been doing that all my life, I want a lefty now. Although I'm the only lefty in the entire family so someone will have to learn to shoot it lol.

My BIL is wanting to go out of state to deer hunt, so I'm gonna have to find a good shooter. Catch There are some very good old 700, models around that shoot very well. I don't recall if they made .243 in the old 721 model but if I ever saw a good one in front of me I would own it. ( if their is one make sure you get the full 26" barrel, most have been cut down by fools) The older Winchester XTR models were terrific shooters. Staying on the easy price in a new rifle the Savage models are super. I bought a righty and a lefty for each of my sons and they are tack drivers. Bullet that caliber up right and it kills plenty. I have taken some big bears with mine, and I have a friend who still guides in the west and has killed countless elk with his, he is a neck shooter. When I did guide in the west I saw wagonloads of mulies go down to .243's. It is not a long range shoulder breaker, but has all the accuracy and oomph needed to destroy the bellows. Osky

So far my search parameters have gotten larger. Older Rem 700's and Win 70's. Doubt I could find a lefty, but they'd do.
