Yeah I think you're right. I can remember reading about the Tongass in Field & Stream when I was a kid. The trees were very small then. laugh

Is there a standard applied to all refuges or is it at the disgression of Refuge manager ? (new cabin)

What is allowed on federal land is subsistence. Many of these legal garantees are laid out in ansca and anilca. You won't find most of this on the internut.

If you meet the qualifications, legally, you can build a trapline cabin in Denali National Park and Preserve. However the Park beauracracy will not make it easy.

As far as the OP, you could probably get away with squating in the armpit on State land if you build off any water bodies in the forrest and keep a low profile and nobody turns you in because you (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) them off.

I'm just getting back to checking this thread and want to say TY for all your advice. I had seen something years ago about squatting and heard it was outlawed. The refuge thing is new to me but very interesting. That is the only reasonable advice I've ever got on the topic I believe! Again, Thank you so much!
