Is it soft? I did one once and it came out like a sheet of 3/8's plywood. It would give, but not bend.

It’s not hard but not soft, I would say it feels like a big sheet of construction paper, I can fold it and crinkle it up in a ball and it will lay back out.

Did you brain tan it?Keep applying the brain/soap until it strikes completely thru the thickest part of the hide.It can get as soft as a piece of flannel if you apply the brain until it strikes completely thru.It could take 75 or 100 applications depending on how thin you were able to scrape the hide.Ideally you want the whole hide less than an eighth of an inch thick uniformly.A lot of work. Depending on your use for the hide soft stretchy leather may not be needed.

I thought I would have to thin it a lot to get it workable but it turned out to be quite thin to start with. I believe this was a young cow. I thinned it a little to much in some spots and unfortunately hit the hair follicles. I never did come up with brains so I uses a soap oil emulsion instead. It is quite soft to the touch like flannel but probably not all the way through yet. I feel like some places it wanted to fall apart while I was working it so I just finished working it until it was dry and left it at that.

Looks great! Was it an older bison and what size is it?

I haven't measured it but I think the cow was younger like 2? Not 100% on that as there was sort of a mixed bag to choose from in the hide pile. I have a second one to work on now but I believe its a bit bigger and a bull.
