Which do you use for coyote drags?

I have #2 quality chain on mine but from others who I have talked to they just use #2 link chain.

I am rather inexperienced but I put U S #3 on my canine drags. The thought process was 1 it is heavier and 2 if it gets wrapped up it's pretty much bullet proof. I'm using saber tooth drags with 8 feet of chain crunch proof at both ends welded J hooks.

The chain I use most is the chain taken from the side of old tire chains. Might be 3/0 or 4/0.

Seeing that you are in Idaho I would go with #3. Sooner or later you might decide to go after Wolves.

This is one reason why I was thinking of switching to #3 chain.

I guess I need to order some supply house chain so that I know what every one is talking about, because in USA #3 chain is smaller than #2 chain, in the same manner that fish hooks and shot get smaller as numbers increase and increase in larger x/0 sizes. .
Are those numbers metric? or are they meaning 2/0 & 3/0 ? or are they arbitrary numbers according to the size trap it's used on?

With chain #3 is larger than #2. I'm not sure why it is that way but it's not like wire sizing where the higher number gets smaller. Forien chain is less expensive but some thing not as strong and consistent as U S chain. I guess with me the little extra $ is worth it to buy American.

American chain is measured just as I said, in descending sizes 1>2>3>4- in ascending sizes 1/0<2/0<3/0<4/0
Those chains you are buying don't meet the National Association of Chain Manufacturers standards, https://www.nacm.info/specifications/

#5 chain on #3-4 traps due to wolves all the way to the trap. 10 feet and there is no bouncing drag or any lack of grabbing the first obstruction. Even use #7 on my 4:5 SC’s.

I never understood supply house measurements either. Totally backwards.

TJM, I was looking at the # 3 chain versus the #2 chain I had on traps. Not an expert by any means. Honest question so I know the real deal. Are they using the 3/0 and dropping the 0 or am I backwards?

Or is there some other measuring system they are using? Just curios so I am better informed and can make better decisions. Thanks

You need to check the dimension you want. In trapping the numbers 2, 3, 5 are to the size common to that size ttrap.
The 2/0 3/0 are American Standard measurement like gauge. The larger the number the smaller the chain.
