As far as grinding ,for somthing like this I prefer to use a sand paper flap disk. The flap disk takes of metal faster than a belt sander but gives you more control than a straight stone. I keep all my won ones becasue they work amazing for finishing and polishing work !

Once we get the welds ground down we can re drill the hole. Didn't take a picture of the actual drilling because it's pretty straight foward.i think I used a 3/16ths or a 13/64ths. Once I drill out the hole I go back over real quick with the flap disk or belt sander to get my burrs and make sure the surface is flat. The flatter the surfaces the more even the tension will be .

While where sanding were also going to take off some metal from the pan shank. Doing this will help ensure the pan will drop 100% down . Hoh can do this with a grinder and flap disk or even a file but my belt sander gives me the snap I like the best . But the way the sander is a 1/2" sander and you can get them at harbor freight for like $35.
The white soap stone mark shows what were taking off for the most part.

For things like this I just comp my sander in my vice so I can work a little easier.

And just a comparison between a pan right off the trap and one we modified. Sorry if this dosent quiet show the ending we did to the shank.

Now that the on is ready I just go ahead and white wheel very thing so it's easier to weld. By the way with a wire wheel on a grinder ,make sure you wear some HEAVY GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION! Espically with. New wire wheel ! Now you don't need to buff the pan but I do so when I paint them the lettering POPS! Again not need for catching fur but I just love the way it looks lol.

Now we need to get a nut to make the pan tension system. Is very important to get a nut that's taller than the head of your pan bolt here's an example. By the way I didn't have any #10 brass bolts or nuts so I had to fap some up lol.

Now to actually weld the nut in place this I how I do it.the nut on the end of the bolt is the one that gets welded on. The other nut is there to for mind of a bipod effect go make sure the other stays straight same with why the pan is on there too. Now I like to get my nut a little outside flush .

And this is wht you should have after we welded it on.
