This too will pass...in the end, the fella that dies with the most guns, traps, tools, and manly toys...wins.
It will probably be a fella like me anyhow.

Angela, I disagree with your post and welcome a good discussion. Exactly how are you equating the similarity between the Caven's and the Duke's? Not sure what you're asking here? Big surprise!

there is just so many designs you can come up with and their going to resemble something and there is probably few stamping mills that will make jaws baseplates pans its not like each manufacturer has its own steel mill

Aren't the caven brand of Bridger traps foreign made (china) and knock offs of Northwoods (coil springs) and victor (conibears)? And their DP's mostly a knock off from the griz getters with a little change in the trigger system? They bought the Bridger trap company from Terry Montgomery a few years back. They didn't start the Bridger Trap Company.

They didn't start the Bridger Trap Company. So was it the Montgomery's who started Bridger? If I remember correctly it was advertised that Bridger traps were made with the same tooling and dies as the Northwoods line... That would lead me to believe that the rights to the Northwoods line were purchased when Bridger began making traps. If that is the case there would be no infringement between Northwoods and Bridger. Is that correct Paul? Or is my mind slipping? Mike

I own an assortment of trap brands, Duke, MB, Northwood, No B.S., Montgomery, victor, But over 50% of my coyote traps are standard duke #2's with OS jaw. I have caught many coyote and cat in them never with a bad catch or a loss. I always inspect all my traps thouroughly before they go in the ground and on all the dukes I will admit I have changed the pan tension screws. But for 9$ a piece I'll keep changing screws. I see nothing wrong with them. I do understand they aren't american made, which is unfourtunate. But if i can buy 2 or 3 of them for the price of one 550 or 650, that makes plenty of sense to me long as they arent losing me animals. Don't get me wrong, the MB traps and simillar American made brands are definatley sturdier and a better made trap. But if you can't afford spending 20+$ on a single trap they are a great value. Where I trap I have to set some areas where there is a possibility of theivery, and losing 9$ is a loss I can afford. I do love my 650's and especially my no B.S traps for their ability to come out of frozen ground and the strong lock up, but like I said out of many animals, and some very big and aggressive male coyotes and tom bobcats,I have never lost an animal or even had a bad catch in a duke trap. As for this new model, if they are still half the price of a 550 then that sounds like a great deal, however if they are the same price, I will stick with MB's simply for the fact they are U.S. made. As for all of you that hate duke traps, I would be curious to know if you have actually lost animals because of them or specifically what is wrong with them other than just disliking them for the sake of disliking them. Also, I really only speak for the coyote size coilspring traps as I havent used any others besides #1 coils for marten which work great for me.I have all trap brands and two traps have caused me issues. 1st being a #2 Duke coil. Playing around with it and cleaning it up I dry fired it about 4 times. Well on the 4th time a jaw tip broke. Never had this ever happen before. And when I was a kid we dry fired traps hundreds of times. So now I am leary about those traps and will just buy Victors. 2nd trap is the Bridger 150.Bought a dozen and the dog does not fit into the trigger. Not worth my bother to take apart and fix so I will be putting these in my trapping club chinese auction and let somebody else fool with them. IMO there could be a problem with any trap but for the most part I try to buy American if I have a choice since Trump took office and let me tell you why. With his tariffs coming with China I buy Chippewa logger boots for cutting firewood and working on my property. The ones made in China were $169/pr. Same boot made in USA is $275/pr. Now prior to Trump I have been buying the $169/pr China made ones since 100 bucks is 100 bucks. But now I want to keep Chippewa USA employees working and could give a rats A$$ about China. So now I cough up the extra $100 and buy the USA made ones. And I will be only buying MTP MB550's. MAGA

And with out China we wouldn't be selling much American produced fur. Just think of all the poor Chinese people that would be put out of work If Duke stopped making traps In that country.
I hope there will always be a market for American fur. We should worry about American jobs first.
