Good morning all.

My next question is how do you deal with a skunk that has gotten trapped as opposed to the targeted animal ( coyote for me ) ? My goal of course is to not have the skunk spray. I have Googled it, and people say different things. Most say shoot it in the chest/heart and it most likely will not spray, others say that with a head shot your sure to get the stink bomb. I have seen the syringe on a pole with acetone, and one guy says he approaches the skunk real slow and calm with an old blanket, talks nice and friendly to it, covers it up, then follows the chain to it's foot and releases it, all while avoiding the spray. So in the real world, out in the field, how do you deal with a trapped skunk?

as always thanks for your advice.

When using a blanket and holding it out in front of you, you want it to go down to the ground so the skunk doesn't see your legs or feet moving as you get nearer to the skunk and as you get up next to the skunk you just lay the blanket over the skunk and hold it down so the skunk can not lift it's tail to spray you, now you may take your trap off the skunk leg.

WOW So the blanket trick actually does work. I'm sure it will happen eventually, because the cameras tell me that skunks are abundant, but I don't know if I would have the McNuggets to actually get that close to a live one.

I will stick with heat lung shot. I want every skunk I catch. They very rarely spray using this method its more like a shart. and I think that's from the sound of the gun going off. Just leave them alone after the shot the longer and more you bother them the worse they will smell. But yes the blanket does work as well I use the blanket when ive got a cage caught one

Just use the pole method. Why turn $ lose when trapping. I prefer them to not to spray at all. Even at little bit is too much. After you have done a few you loose your fear of them. I'll take all the skunks I can catch. Plus you feel like a real trapper after you have learned to use the pole on them.
