I use double ferrules when it comes to making end loops and I pound them flat. But I’ve noticed professional earth anchor and some snare builders use an aluminum type sleeve (with a swager) instead of ferrules. Where do you get them?

Did you call F&T or Minnesota Trap Line too see if they have what you are looking for.

Pretty sure they are still using double ferrules but when crimped properly in a swager they look like it was a round sleeve.

Which, the ferrules or swager?

Ferrules/Sleeves are from most trapper suppliers...$6/100.

My AWESOME wife got me my swager from Tractor Supply for $60 for Fathers Day a few yrs ago. It has 4 different slots for different size ferrules.
Find them in the Fencing dept, but DONT buy ferrules there, for .25 each.!

Menards might be your place in the Midwest for farm gear.

Hammered is stronger than swaged, unless you hammer it too much.
Have had some swaged ferrels fail-never had a hammered ferrel fail.

I’ve seen the exact opposite.

Have yet to have a swaged earth anchor fail. Have had hammered ones fail when using the puller.

Gotta use the right components. That’s why most swaggers come with a testing tool.

Properly swagged ferrules will have 90% of the breaking strength if the cable.

I've popped a few hammered ferrels fail while pulling earth anchors. Never have had one let go that was properly swaged. Swager comes in handy as you can close J hooks with one very quickly and completely.

The reason hammered is stronger (when done right) is the crosspunch flares the wire making it impossible to pull out.

hammered aluminum stops will some times fail, hammered double ferrules I have never had one give. swaggered ferrules or stops always need to be watched for correct compression. when I was still a lineman for the electric company I learned the importance of correct compression on the 500 acsr splices. if the splice didn't expand in length it was not holding the span.

With over 25 years building and using snares with hammered ferules and stops I have never had one that was cross punched with a standard screwdriver fail, that I am aware of. Whereas I cannot say the same regarding some swagered ones I have purchased.
