Anyone know why NAFA cancelled the next sale? A friend said they called and told him they were not having another wild fur sale this year. I thought their main sale was going to be in May or June ? I sent to FH so just wondering how thats going to effect the guys who sent to NAFA. I know one fellow who sent them a pile of fur.

I'm still waiting for a check from FHA's last sale.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

NAFA is still having their May sale for wild fur, but their won't be a third sale this year.

There will definately be a May/June NAFA sale this year! They are already promoting the ranch mink collection and will be publishing an order of sale soon.

Dropped some fur off yesterday for the FHA May sale-it is a week before NAFA's.

Must be financing it with trapper's proceeds from the last sale.

Why was NAFA’s receiving date so early if there sale is after the fur harvesters sale in May?

$68 average for marten after commission and cleaning etc. Almost felt like not trapping next year from rumors of worse prices. It's not the 100 average but probably trap next year

NAFA has more fur to grade than FHA. Takes them longer to get ready for a sale. Maybe.

By having an early receiving date, it encourages trappers and dealers to get their fur to NAFA in plenty of time before the sale. You have a later receiving date and the fur isn't ready when inspection starts. I've been in Toronto several times for a sale and the wild fur samples aren't ready. The graders are working in one part of the building while buyers are inspecting in another part. Not the way it is supposed to work.

Additionally, NAFA is fairly liberal when it comes to last receiving date for their biggest sale of the year. Even if your Goods arrive a week or two after last receiving date, there is a strong possibility they will still be on this sale. NAFA has already announced they won't be offering fresh wild fur at their August sale (if they have a sale at all). So they want to push as much fur on the May/June sale as possible. Last thing they want is fur sitting around over the summer that isn't available for sale.

So, private treaty is a thing of the past? Good grief. Wish Groeney had a northern route.

Private treaty is still available but only after the goods have been through an auction.

Not sure who said private treaty was gone.

I always assumed that through Private Treaty, fur was always for sale.

I was referring to goods that arrived too late to get on the May/June sale. To the best of my knowledge, that fur is put in cold storage, as is (ungraded) and nothing is done with it until November or so when the new season gets under way. Since it is not graded, there isn't any way to,offer it to buyers. It would be like selling trapper lots at a state sale and I don't believe NAFA does that.

As a general rule, items offered via Private Treaty have already been through one or more auctions. There can always be exceptions to every rule.

UPS and FedEx both run to Groenewold's shop.
