Anybody make or use drowner locks for chain made from conduit or pipe? Looking for a way to make a bunch that does not require any welding. These will be used for coon, mink and rats but otter and beaver could end up in the sets. Thanks, Anthony

Just the same as the square tube lock here. Cut the 2 1/4- 2 1/2" long then cut a 45* angle on the end and drill a hole for your J-hook. I've done it with conduit as well.

Thanks ADC! That is what I am looking for. I have a bunch of round steel conduit laying around I was hoping I could use. It seems plenty string enough for coon and the occasional otter. Most of the places I will be setting them drop off into 8+ feet of water a foot or so from the bank so the critters will be down and out the instant they step off the ledge.

Glad to help. Another simple drowner without a welder would be to take an eye bolt about 3-4" long bend it so the eye is straight sideways and drill a hole through the end of the bolt for your J-hook. Easy-Peazy (but not as cheap as the conduit)

I built the square ones several years ago. Work great.

I did not make these, bought them from a fella at a convention but they would not be that hard to duplicate. Just need some pipe, a saw, a vise and a drill.

There is plenty of clearance on 1/2" rebar so it slides down, no problem, and the V shape notch behind the J hook locks up tight. They work very well and have a lot less surface to get hung up than the ones with the angled arms.

Yep, cut round or square or rectangle pipe at a 45 On 1end and drill hole to attach the chain to the trap

Thanks for the replies. I have a pile of steel conduit I plan to use for this project. It is the heavy wall so I think it should work fine. Gives me a good reason to go by a metal chop saw too!

Great ideas. Also, just a heads up.....make sure that you use a "J" hook and not an "S" hook when attaching to your traps. The "S" hooks tend to open up too easy and don't allow for your trap to swivel.

About the only connector I use on my trap chain and swivels are HD J hooks. Never liked the feel of the S hooks. They always seemed a little to easy to open and close.

No, it's a toggle to attach to a different system. It will toggle right into a swivel, say .
