Im am new to trapping and I have had a few people ask about trapping problem animals this spring and summer. Mostly a beaver or coyotes. Im am curious about what you guys do with the animals after you dispatch when the fur isn’t prime. In my opinion it seems more human to dispatch than relocating 99% of the time but I don’t like the idea of wasting the animal. Can you give me ideas besides buzzard bait?

You need to check with your states DNR for instructions. All states do it their own way and have their own requirements. Many do NOT allow relocation, most will not allow you to keep/sell the fur.

Tan it for wall hangers, save your fur for a while and have it all tanned and sewn together to make a “trapper’s quilt”, have it mounted by a taxidermist, make hats, etc. as long as it is legal. In my state, it is legal to use RAW fur for personal or educational use. Once the fur is tanned, we are able to sell it legally.

Clean and prosess the bones, lots of neat things you can do with them.

You mentioned the two animals that we never relocate even though it is legal. We get enough money for the coyote and beaver that I have no qualms about throwing them in the dumpster. Having said that, there is always someone who wants their carcasses for whatever reason.
