Hello, Would 1/8" inch, 220# pound test quick link be okay for coyote traps? Thank you, Want To Be.
After 200+ years, why would a government want to take your guns away, unless they were going to do something you would shoot them for???

Why screw around and take a chance, surely you're using chain big enough to take a 3/16"! Boss Paul sells them for $37/100 at the store.

Hello, Would 1/8" inch, 220# pound test quick link be okay for coyote traps? Thank you, Want To Be. NO! But, 3/16" will. Make sure you tighten them.

Would someone, anyone care to explain why? with a 220# working load the break test is likely ~600# and it seems it would take big coyote to break one. I have never tested these and don't use many q-links so you've all got my curiosity up. I have had chain that 3/16 links would not pass through. I cant explain it from a technical standpoint but the 1/8" links cant hold up to the pounding/pulling a coyote can subject it to overnight. Will some of them hold up with coyote catches?...yep. Will all of them hold up?...nope. I use the 1/8" links on beaver snares and have never had a problem but beaver cant pull like a coyote.

Will 1/8th inch links hold grey fox, raccoon, or bobcat? Probably...but what if you catch a coyote? Always rig up for the strongest critter you're likely to catch.

Everyone has different standards. For me, one failure is one too many when I knew better and I could and should have prevented it.

Well It pretty much depends on how long your chain Is. A 1/8 Inch quick link hooked up to a 10 or 12" chain isn't going to take much stress. Put It on 36" of chain and things can go wrong.

I went through this phase. Had a failure and that was enough. 6 gauge j-hooks do anything the Qs do trapping wise for me. They are handy little gadgets though.
