I have made quite a few bodygrips and have my springs made in Springfield Ohio. I asked the manufacturer this very question. They laughed and said " it does not matter". Good enough for me.

I store them however they come when I pull them for the year. If the trap fires before I set the safeties, I just leave it that way and will reset it next season. Pretty much how I roll. I do let the springs off if I am dipping them. Haven’t noticed any weakness in my Bridger 280’s or Belisle 120’s/330’s.

What ADC said.^^^^ A trapmaker told me there is no difference storing them one way or the other. What weakens them is constant springing and unspringing(like a vehicle leaf spring). And Rust. You both saved me a lot of typing! For both body grip springs and vehicle springs.
