I am fairly new to the ADC trapping but I had a scenario that stumped me, as well as the gentleman that taught me.

I caught a female under a shed for a customer, it was a nursing female. I explained the scenario of what was going on, that he may or may not see a few small ones running around depending on when she had her liter, 2 days after being caught they said they are seeing more, I expected to return for juveniles. Set traps today and they just called me and told me I caught one bigger then before.

I thought these were solitary creatures? Would an abandoned liter bring in another one? Other wise why would two adults be living in the same den this time of year?

Possibly a male wandering around looking for a girlfriend. Or possibly a female that is looking for new territory. After a den is completely cleaned out I continue to catch more. Sometimes many more.
Keep at it.

The guy who trained me would have said,

"When you think you know everything, you'll be shown you don't."

It's been proven right by me a time or 20. Don't sweat it. Lots of unexpected things are going to happen.

In 2017 at one den at a barn foundation I caught 33 over 6 weeks. They obviously all did not live in the den.

In 2018 at the same den I caught 13 in about 4 weeks then no more.
