Looking for opinions on about buying some coon dagger dog proof traps from sudden valley supply. Speaking strictly in terms of reliability and longevity of the traps, not financially; would it be better to buy the ones that are powder coated or buy the ones that are bare metal and dye them myself.

Also, does anyone has experience in the two way trigger as well? Any opinions are welcome and encouraged.

Looking for opinions on this please.
Thank you

Good trap made in Missouri, as opposed to Asia. Not one thing wrong with them.

I get a kick out of this Asia thing. If you didn't buy Asian made Items you would probably have to run around naked. LOL

I have never used these traps and am considering getting them. Like that they are made in the USA but I have heard good and bad things about them. I don’t really have much to say because of that.

I have been running bare ones for about five years with nothing on them they are holding up good have not tried the new trigger mine are the older two way and i liked them so well i switched out all the rest of my dps to that trigger saves a lot of bait theft over other styles i dont have cats around so push pull works great for me made a big difference in catch numbers after i switched triggers

I have had a dozen of them for maybe 6 years or so and cant really say any bad things about them. Very reliable and continue to just keep working. The only thing I personally dont like is the stake for frozen ground up here but by the time the ground starts freezing I'm pretty much done with dog proofs anyways.

In frozen ground you just drive a pilot hole and drop In the stabilizer part of the trap. Or drive your stake and leave enough sticking out of the ground so you can jip tie the DP to the stake. You never want your DP anchored In the ground.

Coon Dagger has a notch/hole specifically designed in to fit over a rod driven in frozen ground (or concrete) so the stabilizer is free and the trap lifts off the rod when catch is made.
From the website:

A Built in notch for a detachable support for use in frozen or hard ground.
