The cold front shift here yesterday where I live along the south shore of Lake Ontario rewarded me with two rare migrating species visiting my yard for the first time. I have seen and photographed both, each twice in past years, but many miles away from home. Here are my best portraits of them to share.

I have seen one Scarlet Tanager in my lifetime maybe 20 years ago.
I've only once seen a Blue Bunting, which is an gorgeous bird.

So what is the slang word for RED Knot then ? Doubt that Jonathan has a picture of one for comparison.( double pun)
We really have to be careful when looking at Red Knots and hoping they are a wavy ward Curlew Sandpiper, but sooner that later you are rewarded.

Just like the rewards of seeing new postings of Jonathan's captures.

Thank you for the kind words and comments.

This rare visitor showed in my yard yesterday on the tail end of a cold front the day before. It was feeding high in my box elder tree, then zipped down and landed on my brush pile just long enough to get this portrait.

Lovely shots, Jonathan . You would really do justice to the Western Tanagers here as well.

My mistake was made in hast on the ID for that look-a-like warbler species. It is NOT a Northern Parula Warbler. Title of photo was corrected.

Much thanks goes to our in resident expert, Northof50 who sent me a pm noting my bird has no white wing bars. It is a Nashville Warbler.

Kindest regards, NT50.

It is so much easier with one in the hand; rather than two in the bush.

Jonathan you make birding photography look easy. It's all in the song.....with my birding records......that's why I call that bird...."a country & western singer " from Nashville.
