Is carp good for making sun rendered fish oil? Does it have enough fat to be worthwhile?

The best fish oils in my experience as they are the ones I have found to be the best quality for trapping and formulation are Trout, Salmon and Paddle fish oils. I prefer Trout as it is extremely effective and attractive to everything. Great for trapping as a stand alone and a superior ingredient in formulation. I am referring to the top drain oil not the sludge that drops out below the water level. If I had more access to paddle fish I would use the oil more.

I have worked with most of our native fish over the years to find what value for oil they may have. Many just have a lot of water content and work down to sludge. It all has the stink value but not quality oil that will hold and permeate as is desired.

Some batches of trout oil develop a heavy cream during the process of rendering on top of the oil. This is an excellent ingredient and can be made into a fine bait with some other additives as well. Carefully skim it off and set aside for other uses. Don't agitate your rendering fish once it begins working ever. If you mix it up you wont get the top run oil very easily. Nor will it be pure clean oil.

Keep it still and you will find the layers I speak of when it has completed its cycle of rendering.

There used to be some good trout oil years and years ago but there hasn't been any that good for 50+ years ! farmers CAN NOT even spread hog crap out on there fields anymore because of state or federal laws and ordinances prohibiting the practices of long ago that was common practices a farmer was Sued for the odors from his hog farm from people down wind , another farmer was Sued for spreading a very rich mixture of fermented hog crap on his field one winter you could smell that mix farther than 5 miles away on each side of the compass farther downwind in the Winter freezing temps , still got Sued , and he only done that 1 time 1 Winter

'Ole folks could do things widely different way back yonder years that you can not do today without peta (ponit) will not Sue you for doing it , even ethanol plants are being Sued because of Odors are too loud , jeeezzzz , and fish are lots louder than ethanol plants ever wanted to be

Nobody living or dead has ever tried every fish known from this Earth waters and they will never have a chance to do so

same 'Old same written type from 1910's forward and passed on from dead to living , one to another ............. usual something easy to obtain in quantity cheap ,paddle fish are ALL over the Big Rivers worse than Asian Carp

paddle fish is by far the easiest to render into oil and its a golden oil that's very easy to collect! I was never successful at fish oil till I got a sizable amount of paddlefish[spoonbills]to work with! I've collected a half gallon in two draws so far! Im considering spending a couple of weekends at boat ramps for a few 55 gallon drums full of paddle fish remains. On a busy weekend a guy could probably fill 20 with ease! From my attempts carp makes a runny fish juice!

Tony , The Great Ohio and Mississippi Rivers are Full of Fish Go catch yourself a Mariner Full of them Fish and buy yourself 10 long freezers to put them in .

You can dry out them spoonbills and use them as Clubs , 'Ole 'Ole process .

Everybody wants The Easy Way To Do , lol , with Carp / Suckers you must collect them in the Autumn / Fall when they have there fat supply stored up heavy for Winter , you Will see a big difference .

takes about 2+ years to process Carp / Suckers to render there Best Oil .

In Spring they have used there fat all up from dormant Winter .

Spring collection of Carp / Suckers are Easy in Spring and most people collect them in Spring Time , but that is The Wrong Time to collect them , thus the Water 'Unk .

Most folks do not know this fact or do not try it out , Carp / Suckers do produce decent Oil if collected in Fall .
