Since I hate to waste tasty critter on bait, what makes the best bait that you personally would never eat?

Alpaca is the only one that comes to mind that I've never heard anyone talk about how good they are to eat. With that said I haven't got my hands on one for bait YET, but I'm planning on getting some this winter.

bobcat and ground hog, rats and mice

I keep hearing people say they like bobcat and groundhog, I say to many animals taste good to eat either one. Never ate rats or mice. Some countries rats are table fare but I never had any desire to eat one.

Summer road killed deer. DNR will give permits for them. Great bait as long as you get it processed pretty fast before they bloat to much then it gets nasty pretty quickly.

My elk guide told me he would rather eat mountain lion then elk. I've eaten bob cat and Lynx both are excellent table fare.

Road killed deer, just stop and cut out the back straps no sense In hauling the whole deer home. But if your creating dead piles then you might as well haul the whole thing home.

Here they want you to haul off roadkills to keep the shoulders looking nice and eliminate dogs from being road pizza! But I just keep the easy grinding meat hams and back straps. that's usually enough for 4-5 gallons of bait. The yotes here are pretty well all deer diet when trapping season opens. That being said I don't eat predator bait still to much beef and pork in the freezer to eat varmits! Although I did bbq some muskrats a few weeks back they was surprisingly good! Its dark meat that kind of sweet it pairs well with lemon. Its one of those foods that's best when still hot. The longer it sits done it gets tougher and stringy! I'd try it again but I think battered and deep fried will be my next attempt.

In Ohio beav its illegal to just stop and grab a part of a deer. They make you take the entire thing. You just have to call the sheriffs office and they with send out an officer and write you a permit for it.
