That is a filthy baby nutria. Not that it is filthier than other nutria. They are all filthy, weird acting, silly animals. Tied for last with possums for the dumbest. I don't know how smart nutria are, but I know they can be pretty vicious. If one catches you sneaking up on him when he's out in the field grazing it's not unheard of for them to charge at you.

You got that right. Most fur bearers bluff a charge. Not a nutria. If he makes a move, he's coming! I had one charge me while I was pulling on the chain to extract him from a bush. He came out alright. Right at my face. Fortunately I had a defense implement in hand and was able to defend myself at close range. I will never forget how large and orange their teeth are.
