Do many of you make your own weasel lure or bait?

Location Is more important then bait or lure. Old rock piles old abandon buildings seem to be hang outs. A chunk of bloody liver will work for bait.

Nice chunk of beaver meat gets their interest.

Sure do. Like the Beav says if you get around them they aren't too hard to catch on purpose.

Thanks.

Boco's set is interesting. It looks like an elevated 110, and the bait appears to have been pulled out of the box. Are weasels tree climbers?

It's a Canadian thing AJE you could build a 100 of those Boco sets and never catch a weasel In WI.
I trapped In Canada and we caught all kinds of weasels and flipos (flying squirrels) In those elevated marten boxes. We even caught some mink and some fox and some lynx. But our boxes were vertical other then horizontal.

poles I used in wy are angled to the ground. tied up on a tree with wire. bait was whatever was handy. chunk of beaver, jackrabbit even prairie dog, weasels and marten both didn't seem to picky. wasn't really after the ermine but caught plenty of them. box looks just like bocos

Yes I am aware that's a martin not a weasel. This set caught plenty of them even though I was after martin. Had to put mink pans on the 120's as the ermine just went right between the trigger wires. I used a home made lure mixed up right before I left to go west.. FRESH skunk essence, preserved otter gland, castor and glycerine. equal parts.

beaver or muskrat carcass. I'm not sure what caught this weasel.

Nice catch les.

Those using beaver or muskrat as bait, are you dipping it in a bait solution?

No. The bait can just be the bloodier the better for weasels. They are hungry and they hunt non stop. A cardboard box, with a 1 1/4" hole in it, and a piece of meat and a 1 1/2" longspring, will catch a weasel in winter .
