I like old stuff especially in the hunting and trapping world..

I’d like to try this but I’ve never made any lures or baits..

Any opinions on these lures/baits?
Not sure where to get the ingredients or if you still can?

That one ounce of civet is a problem. Is it one ounce of spotted skunk essence or one ounce of Ethiopian civet musk? an ounce of either COULD be to much depending on what he is talking about. One ounce of a civet musk tincture would be ok depending on tincture strength and if its spotted skunk essence after its aged a few years an ounce would not necessarily be to much. musk xylol is no longer available so far as I know but similar artificials are. cumin oil is another nasty one and could/should be just omitted. 10 drops of good anise oil and you wont be able to smell anything else. rhodium oil comes in different strengths as well.

that bottom one might be good. let everything sit and age together for a year or so. I would only use a drop or two of tonquin. if its good it will overpower everything if a half ounce is used.

asafetida is another one its very easy to use to much. tinctures vary wildly in strengths.

I once had the formula to make SFE. When I took It to my neighbor who was a chemistry professor told me some of the ingredients were poisonous. I never made any but I still have several ounces of the stuff and It does work.

XYOL is a sort of paint thinner that I am shocked would be used in a bait.

Opinions, is it worth trying the 2nd recipe or does anyone have a better recipe that I could try from years ago and still get the ingredients?
