Curious which way you put your peanuts in a 110.

I've been putting them like in A, perpendicular to the jaws but have noticed that the catch is always in the bottom corner.

Any other preferences?

None of those. Throw them way in the back of a cubby and give them two or three for free outside the cubby. They are greedy.

neither way here either, i want them to engage the wires for an extended time

I thread a strip of sponge on the trigger wires and smear peanut butter on both sides

For Squirrels
I use a walnut, drill holes for trigger wires.put on a running pole with roofing nails.
never had an empty trap and never a non-target.

Thanks: About what size of sponge would you use? 1/2" thick by 1.5" square?

I'll have to try a cubby. I made one for some rat traps (not muskrat, but roof/norway rat), but I have yet to catch anything in them or to even to have them set off. Have caught rats in cages and in the 110's, but never in the cubby.

Summer project....

I have set up a pole between some trees where I was going to try setting some snares, but will give the walnut thing a try too.

Thanks all!

I use a tree branch at least 6 ft off ground. Smear peanut butter out 5-6 ft from trunk. Set trap 6 inches in toward trunk on MTP bracket. I prefer pans over wires and, obviously put dog on bottom.

I bet if you go trigger on the bottom with your peanut on the wire it would solve your problem too. The squirrel won't get the peanut off and will pull down, hence pulling themselves into the traps reach.

A smear of peanut butter in a marten box works great. It also atttracts ants like crazy here. So I have a little system. I set the box with peanut butter and an ant trap. If the ants go haywire I move down the branch I put a trap by itself on a killer clip with a walnut half pushed over the wires. I’ll catch them that way until the ants settle down. Sometimes I set both.

Sometimes the trap is set off with no catch. Not often, but occasionally. Don't have a camera, but from the position of the catch, it seems like the squirrels are grabbing the peanut from the end. I was wondering if due to that position, the squirrel sometimes gets pushed out of the way when the jaws were closing. Thought that if I could square up the catch, I'd have fewer misses.

Lots of good ideas here. Thanks again, all.

That would solve the problem of the occasional peanut that doesn't stay on the wires. Simples solutions sometimes are the hardest to see!
