One war that is often forgotten,is the 1845 war with Mexico. The defeat of Santa Anna, and the land he was forced to give up,greatly increased the size of our country.
Many now wish, that the Mexicans had kept California and the nut cases that state harbors.

It has been all down hill since we lost the second war for freedom to Lincoln.

The war that made America was the French and Indian War. After the Brits won the war It was the reason the British taxed the heckl out of the colonies, to pay for the expense the British crown expended fighting it. That is what pushed the colonials into the Revolution.

Had the French won and controlled the North American continent, the colonials would probably still be huddled in settlements along the Atlantic coast. The French had a better policy of dealing with Native Americans, and were only interested in exploiting the fur trade and other resources, not more European immigrant settlement expansion.

A great book to read about the seven years war/French and Indian war, is Johnson of the Mohawks.

Not so much the war as what America did after each one. Stood tall and proud and moved on.

Can't rattle Boco cause he was defeated by a stroke of a moderator and is history.
