I really enjoy seeing these collections of traps and would like to start doing a little collecting of my own. I want to take it slow and learn about them as I go. I don't want to just start buying anything I see and want to narrow the focus of my collection. I am looking for guidance on where to focus my attention. Where there trap makers in Missouri? or even the Midwest? Should I focus on one company? Time period?

My next question is RUST! How do I prevent it?
Thank you for the answers!

Always buying Coon Dagger traps

I personally just buy what I find unusual, different or just something I like. I prefer them to have a readable pan, complete, no pitting and no over-cleaning. WD-40

You can find good information on the American Trap Collectors site, http://dogcatcherboy.proboards.com/

Let's go Brandon!

An easy way to start would be with #1 longsprings. There are a TON of different brands and styles and most are very affordable.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Guthrie,
It's nice to see another Missouri Boy enter into the world of Trap Collecting. The NTA is this week the 11th through the 13th at the Fairgrounds in Springfield Mo. There will be many Trap collectors there and would be a good show for you to attend. We will be set up inside with many rare traps in booths 56W 57W & 58W. The NATCA (North American Trap Collectors Association), will be well represented with both tailgating and indoor booths. Stop by if you make it to Springfield, and remember this when you start collecting traps, you wont be able to stop "TRAP COLLECTING IS NOT A HOBBY, IT'S A DISEASE".

My biggest collection is with the trap brand I used when I first started trapping. It was easier then because I already had a good start. From there I slowly start picking up a few here and there from other brands. Enjoy the addiction!!
