Used the 14's for beaver here when they were legal, now use the 4's.The No.2 jump was just about the best 'rat trap I ever used.

I did use the #1's and #1.5 for rats years ago. They worked just fine in water sets.

when I was a kid, I could buy 2- 1 1/2 jumps for the price of a 1 1/2 victor coil. many a red and grey fox gave up the pelt to them on a log set .lighter than the coils, more could be put in the rucksack. I walked everywhere back then!

I wrote to Sleepy Creek a few years ago asking if there was any chance of them considering manufacturing jumps again. She said before her dad died he had a lot of ideas.I took that to mean he was thinking about it,but things happened and that was that.Alot of guys nowdays don't think much of the jump design and when you compare them to modern day coil springs they have a point. But contrary to a lot of their beliefs these traps caught a lot of fur in their time, men like Herb Lenon and his son Asa used them predator trapping, and of course beaver trappers with their beloved 14 jumps.

Pretty self explanatory but all I do is cut a notch in a dry pole for the spring on a #1 to a #2 sized jump trap, wire the trap off low on the pole and drive a nail or screw for placing bait. They work anywhere but if you set them in current put the trap on the downstream side of the pole.

Not really a fan. I never could see what they could do that a coilspring didn't do better. But it was probably using a bunch of #1 jumps one year that soured me on them. They would hold coon, mink and rats just fine, but too many sprung traps...

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I've heard this complaint before, maybe I was just lucky, maybe I bedded my traps different,I never noticed where I had more sprung traps. When using them for coyotes and 'cats I had problems with the pan and dog,the pan in particular. After a coyote catch the pans always seem to loosen up considerably and very sloppy.I've been told either the Miles trigger or PIT pans installed improves this trap considerably. As for beaver,I had far more success with the 14's and 4 jumps than I ever did with No.4 longsprings.I own about 50 No'4 Jumps and don't hesitate to go beaverin with them.

I came across some old stock new springs a old trapper had. I got something like 3 dz from him. I seen one time that a old man welded a bolt under end of spring. It was push to inside of under spring to make it sprong again he said.

I like the 1.5 and # 2 size for muskrat . The 2 is little big but what I have. I have caught a bunch of beavers in #3 and 4.

We can still use the #14 over here, they work great for beaver. I don't use alot but I have a friend I can still buy them from. I have a ton of the #3, mostly use them to front foot catch beavers with the #3 attached to a drowning wire. The pans do get loose, to the point of the wake of boats set the trap off.

I have a bunch of 1.5s and 1s I use for rats and mink. They work.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I also like/use jumps, #4 for beaver and otter. I went to the Miles trigger system on them about 35 years ago, a great improvement on that trap for beaver. About 15 years ago I put them away because I struggled with setting them with arthritic hands. Then I found DAVE- One hand setters, his setters were a game changer. The #4's have gone back into use again after I got a pair of DAVE'S setters
