I liked Setons book,Wild Animals I have known.Although he trapped he anthropomorphised the animals to a great extent.
His story of Bingo the dog was about his time trapping coyotes in Manitoba.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Baloney is what it is, the fact is the material was written and is collectable. Haveing collected paper for over 20 years, you will find alot of baloney packed between the pages of many other books also. Palgerizim was/is rampant during a time when fur was hot and a trapper could be skun more than once but a coyote only once. In light of that collecting the data, books and articles allows all us to keep history in check during a time when so many are trying to rewrite history. People think some of Hawbakers and Harding material is baloney and out of date but they were here before we came and hopefully be here after we leave. The written material is what has inspired us and the industry. So let the buyer beware and remember PT Barnum and the snake oil salesman of the past. Dailey and Spearman were great writters, one was a trapper the other an arm chair expert, both motivated trappers and created the first trapping organization. How many years do actually think Dailey spent in the wilderness chasing fisher. Did you know one year he was a great skunk trapper rand the next year a fox wizard who invented the dirthole. Thorpe (RIP) was loved by some and hated by others, there is no difference. I am not selling kool-aide here, just giving you information. Hope all ur traps are full.

wr otis,

Fact:The wolf existed

"Lobo the King of Currumpaw"[clarification needed] is the first story of author Ernest Thompson Seton's 1898 book Wild Animals I Have Known. Seton based the book on his experience hunting wolves in the Southwestern United States.

Fact: Ernest Thompson Seton was a trapper.

Enjoy the baloney, I like mine fried with a slice of tomato.

Enjoy your life and have a safe day on the trapline, if you get a chance get out west and trap some coyotes, I spent 19 years out there.

Lobo's pelt is kept at the Ernest Thompson Seton Memorial Library and Museum at the Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico.[
Artist-naturalist Ernest Thompson Seton began the greatest adventure of his life in October 1893 working as a hired wolf killer in New Mexico.

I figured Daily was the real deal from following his articles. He wrote some great stories.
As you said, Thorpe was not liked by some and liked by a lot of others.

Trapping is no different than any other segment of our society. There always has to be someone that looks for the turd in the punch bowl. Too many negative folks that are too jealous of others. It is a waste of energy.

Mac
