Have the owner quit feeding them and they will get hungry!
I have nothing clever to put here.

Some of his food and some panty hose. Hook buried in the food wrapped in the panty hose.
Just livin' the dream...and paying full price for it!

Have the owner quit feeding them and they will get hungry! That's a big part of it!! ^^ Larger, older catfish can get real tough to catch in a farm pond with conventional tackle, as they are quite sensitive to any odd noise, etc, that a fisherman might make. I like the simulated fish food idea, I have done something like that in the past with "fed" fish. What I did was whip a cup of food out and also a fly with my flyrod. It is quite a hoot to fight a big catfish on 2 pound test and a flyrod.

The most important part is to get them out of the water immediately if catching them when they’re grouped up feeding. I grew up with a pond that the catfish were fed. I quickly learned that when they’re being fed, hooking one and playing it would end the action with 1-2 catfish, 3 if I was lucky. Going to a jerk-em-straight-out approach changed everything. I haven’t done this in many years, but it never failed me. I’d catch as many as I wanted to clean and called it a day.
Stiff rod is important but can make do, but a fixed length of string that allows pulling them out without fighting is imperative (think cane pole setup). My opinion is that they’re releasing something that screams danger when they’re fighting (pheromones?) and it causes the bite to end. Lifting them straight away seems to beat this panic response and they remain frenzied. My experience had been they’ll hit nearly anything when in a frenzy.
Just my opinion and experience, your mileage may vary. Let us know how you end up making out...
Good luck
This makes a lot of sense. They won't be able to release as much fear pheromones to alert the other catfish if they are immediately pulled out. Keith
