That’s exactly what I did last year.

Won't be anything to worry about. I boil new traps in water with baking soda. Then paint them let them dry really good before dipping in fmj.

This will be my first time using fmj. Does it work like people says it? It is alot cheaper getting it at NTA . No shipping or tax. Going to get some more at Southeast meeting.

I like it. Stupid easy to use, just don't let it freeze.

Go to Home Depot and get a gallon of "Zeps High Traffic Floor Polish". It is the same thing, except it's only $16.00 per gallon and you don't have to pay shipping.

I think this type of waxing method sounds like about the easiest way to go and a lot of people like it. J.P. Wilson, lure maker and trapper out of NY loved it, and he has shown some great catch pictures.

The only problem or concern I would have is this. Folks say the traps turn white-ish when set in water. Not sure if that would effect its odor proofing if you were moving traps from land to water and maybe back to land.

I am sort of poor and often use land traps in the water and later water traps on land or vice versa. Many times I find myself making spring hole sets late in the season with canine traps or making mink sets. Just don't know what to think.

Mac

I haven't had a problem with the "Zeps", Mac. I've never used FMJ, but I would assume there wouldn't be problems with it, either.

I noticed with that dye is after u dip your traps if u store in a plastic container there after it will give off a really odd odor. Almost like the smell of the dye itself. I don't know if that is going to matter or not. But I store in a wooden crate after dipping.

Yup. - dip, shake off excess and hang to dry. On new traps (or undipped traps) I may dip them twice, 24hrs. between dips.
I dip my traps in July or August, then leave them hang outside, under an overhang until season.

I cant speak for the zeps but fmj if sealed and kept from freezing will last multiple years. 2 gallons will dip 10 dozen twice . But for speed and ease of dipping I like more to insure they are completely submerged. With out having to tilt my container to get the whole trap covered. I've never seen the need to clean the dog notchs after dipping

I am going to get some . At nta fmj was 24.00 a gallon. But if zeps is same thing . U can almost get 2 gal zep to 1 of fmj. Is it just the name you are buying? Do u redip your trap after a catch. No matter if it needs it or not? Does it stay on good? Thanks

I don't redip my traps till end of season normally, if just moving the trap to a new location I just give it a quick spray off with the pressure washer. In soil conditions it stays on very well from catch to catch. If it's rocky it does wear quicker I've noticed. Still better than a waxed trap imo.
