Can a guy take new traps, clean the oil all off spray paint then dip in FMJ. Or is there an order problem to worry about.
Thanks

That’s exactly what I did last year.

Go to Home Depot and get a gallon of "Zeps High Traffic Floor Polish". It is the same thing, except it's only $16.00 per gallon and you don't have to pay shipping.

I think this type of waxing method sounds like about the easiest way to go and a lot of people like it. J.P. Wilson, lure maker and trapper out of NY loved it, and he has shown some great catch pictures.
The only problem or concern I would have is this. Folks say the traps turn white-ish when set in water. Not sure if that would effect its odor proofing if you were moving traps from land to water and maybe back to land.
I am sort of poor and often use land traps in the water and later water traps on land or vice versa. Many times I find myself making spring hole sets late in the season with canine traps or making mink sets. Just don't know what to think.

I haven't had a problem with the "Zeps", Mac. I've never used FMJ, but I would assume there wouldn't be problems with it, either.

So you just dip in it, shake off the excess a d your done? Yup. - dip, shake off excess and hang to dry. On new traps (or undipped traps) I may dip them twice, 24hrs. between dips. I dip my traps in July or August, then leave them hang outside, under an overhang until season.

I cant speak for the zeps but fmj if sealed and kept from freezing will last multiple years. 2 gallons will dip 10 dozen twice . But for speed and ease of dipping I like more to insure they are completely submerged. With out having to tilt my container to get the whole trap covered. I've never seen the need to clean the dog notchs after dipping
