Machias, not really lots of options for a good non res. drop camp. Here are the ones I know of.
40 mile Air out of Tok. There are write ups on the Alaska Outdoors hunting forum about that hunt. Likely they can get you on caribou but not a guarantee.
Unit 26 up the haul road. Several transporters........Coyote air, 70 north, Arrowhead outfitters. You would be camping on Arctic tundra. Also write ups on AO forum about that.
Unit 23 out of Kotzebue. Like Howler says, Golden Eagle is good. There are others also. Lots, and I do mean lots, of hunters going out from Kotz. If herd migration cooperates then good chances of success. Long ways to travel tho.
If you go on one of these hunts...................feel free to "blabber" on any hunting forum you might participate in. None of these hunts are a secret and "blabbering" won't reveal anything that thousands of others don't already know.
Unit 9 used to be down in the dumps for caribou. Judging from the lack of hunting areas available to non res, I'd say it still is. Just one area in unit 9D that is open to non res. Google could only come up with one outfitter there but there might be more. Maybe Wags knows of a secret one! I'll point out that the current #1 B&C Barren ground caribou came from the Lake Illiamna area in Northern unit 9. As well, the bag limit for non res bou in 9D is 2 bulls. Unit 23 is 1 bull and most of 26 is also. If you can find a transporter (and the money) to get you into 26C the bag limit is 2. There might be a transporter in Kaktovik. If so, you can fly commercial to Kaktovik.
Good Luck. If you go give us a write up on the trip. We promise not to tell!!!.
