I use seafood based dry cat food, mini marshmallows and fish oil as a trailing scent. I put a couple of marshmallows under the trigger and on the ground at the DP for eye appeal. Sometimes I use an anise oil/petroleum jelly mixture up high to draw them in, especially if I want to conceal the trap or catch.
Let's go Brandon!

Cat food and a bit of anise with a marshmallow on top and a squirt of anchovies paste on the rim,

One of my friend's dad owns a fish house. I can get alot of used fish greese. Could a person use it like a lure? I would say so. Besides if you're getting it for free why not give it a shot?

Sets should be under their nose anyway. I make mine with stuff from dollar general. Cheap bag of cat food, molasses, cherry or strawberry jello mix, and couple cans of sardines in oil and mashed up fine. Dump it all into a big plastic jug with lid and shake it up every other day or so. The dry cat food absorbs everything. I start making mine about now. End up with a couple gallons of bait for under $10 in stuff. Bacon grease works well with this too. I've also added fish oil, mashed up mackerel, etc. I will use a good coon lure on lip of the DP or on the golf ball I use for cap. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have skipped bait all together with DP's... I just smear a little bit of lenons under the trigger with a push/pull trigger style DP and I havent found my catch number to decrease with this method over the cat food I used to use.
