I use seafood based dry cat food, mini marshmallows and fish oil as a trailing scent. I put a couple of marshmallows under the trigger and on the ground at the DP for eye appeal. Sometimes I use an anise oil/petroleum jelly mixture up high to draw them in, especially if I want to conceal the trap or catch.

Let's go Brandon!

How do u know how much solution and how much cut fish to put in it? Have any of ya used Mark Steck coon kicker? I boughted his dvd on long lining with lil grizz. He put a cotton ball in bottom under trigger. Put some coon kicker on cotton ball. It was good to go.

Doesn't matter much here out on the prairie what you use, as long as you are in the right spot. I have literally used captain crunch cereal right out of the box and I bet it was just as good as Reuwsaat's smoked fish DP bait (which smells good so I use). The captain crunch was a last ditch thing because I wanted to go trapping but didn't want to go buy or make anything else.

I set two traps per location with different baits when I can find coon tracks around a slough, and it's probably 50/50 as to which trap gets hit. Doesn't really matter what's in it, they'll be in the one that they make it to first. As long as it isn't rotten, mush, or washed out.

Baited 5 dps with a blueberry doughnut around the farm porch last week. Had 4 next morning. Not a good bait for longevity but they loved it. Trouble makers around my poultry need to go.

Caven's Moonshine works like magic for me. My sons like to use Dollar General strawberry pies jammed down in there but it makes mess.

One of my friend's dad owns a fish house. I can get alot of used fish greese. Could a person use it like a lure?

Cat food and a bit of anise with a marshmallow on top and a squirt of anchovies paste on the rim,

I would say so. Besides if you're getting it for free why not give it a shot?

Delta Waterfowl did a pretty in depth trap and bait test on 'coon and of the three types of traps they tested cage traps outperformed DP's and 220 boxes catching over 50% even though they represented only 33% of the total number of traps. The bait that they found to work the best also was responsiible for over 50% of the catches while being used at only 25% of the trap sites. That bait was a 50/50 mix of O'Gorman's Coon Caviar and his Masked Seduction. I plan to try it this year in the cage trapline that the wife runs, even though we are not trapping specifically for coon, we will be glad to up our coon numbers.

Sets should be under their nose anyway.
I make mine with stuff from dollar general. Cheap bag of cat food, molasses, cherry or strawberry jello mix, and couple cans of sardines in oil and mashed up fine. Dump it all into a big plastic jug with lid and shake it up every other day or so. The dry cat food absorbs everything. I start making mine about now. End up with a couple gallons of bait for under $10 in stuff. Bacon grease works well with this too. I've also added fish oil, mashed up mackerel, etc.
I will use a good coon lure on lip of the DP or on the golf ball I use for cap.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Longear that used to be on here, used cheap dog food. Cheap and greasy held together better. Randy Smith was mixing his with coon potion powder, I don't know what he is doing now though. Tom was good for 400+ a year, and I heard randy did over 1500 one year. Both good catches for this state. Tom and Randy were friends and were probably doing the same things, the year Tom died I think he told me he was just using straight dog food and possibly a dab of lure.

Myself I like sweet feed for livestock, stickier and wetter the better. Some brands better than others, some batches of the same brand are better than others also. Fifty pounds for ten bucks, give or take a couple bucks. Ten bucks worth of sweet feed will put a lot of coons in the truck.

I have skipped bait all together with DP's... I just smear a little bit of lenons under the trigger with a push/pull trigger style DP and I havent found my catch number to decrease with this method over the cat food I used to use.
