Was down along the crick this morning and none of the oaks have acorns growing yet. I figured by this time they should be growing. We had some really late cold weather. May be a rough winter for squirrels and deer. Anybody seeing acorns yet?

In my experience, Yes. I have had ill timed spring storms knock off the Catkins (the stringy flower part) on my Oaks/Walnuts and have had no mast that year. Red Oaks require 2 years for the nut to mature.

I believe these are white oaks. Whatever grows all over Nebraska. Last year they were loaded with small acorns.

Our red oaks and beech nut are loaded. I haven’t checked the chestnut oaks yet. I’m not sure if the beech nuts have any meat in them either. Our hickory produce every year I believe they don’t flower until later in the spring thus avoiding the chance of frost destroying the nut crop. Apple trees are also loaded. Southern Vermont.
