Got a half dozen Duke #1 coil springs I've been using for mink, but mink are few and far between. I planned on just using them for pocket set for coons. Will they hold a big boar coon ? any mods to do ? Other uses ? -Thanks

Set them up like your bigger traps, that you would use for coon and coyotes and try them and see.

Yes they will. I used some growing up. I had northwoods #1. They will hold a coon.

I've used them before for coon. Just make sure you get them in deep water and you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm not sure why you want them out in deep water.I'm assuming their like the old nothwoods No.1 coils.I used to use them in suburban situations for 'coon on dry land and never had a problem.

I'm assuming he is putting them on drowning sets. If the coon can get to deep water he has less of a chance to loose it. I'm not saying put the trap in deep water, I'm saying make sure they can get to deep water. Sorry for not explaining it well.

Will be used in shallow creeks and dry land , no drowning sets.

Put them in a narrow pocket set and catch both coon and mink ! That trap is almost ideal for a narrow pocket .

They are copies of the vic's not northwoods, good traps if springs are good. Caught truckload of coons in the vics.

I did too.The Northwoods were beefier and if I remember right had a nut and bolt pan so you could adjust the pan tension. But the Victors did their job too.As pointed out earlier these are front foot traps, but they work great. When I lived in the southern part of the state I used these pretty exclusively for 'coon, trapping in suburbia and urban areas I wasn't about to go banging coon with bigger traps.I can honestly say I never caught a dog or cat but I sure caught a lot of incidental garbage rats.I don't think guys give small traps enough credit,to me their like little bull dogs.

The old vic's from 70's had old style pan, newer models had the screw and nut. The northwoods had the same lack of jaw lock up that the bigger square jaw northwoods had. They also had less jaw spread.

Carrol Black discussed them in his coon book and liked them. These were the Victors.

#1 coils are perfect for certain locations. I wasn't targeting him but I caught and held a big badger in one years ago. No worries on their holding power.
