Does anyone know what size replacement springs I would need for Montana #3s? I ordered some #3 music wire replacement springs from Dakotaline. I tried putting one on today, but I it doesn’t seem to allow enough room for the pin to sit in it’s correct groove. I know, it’s a question I should have asked before I ordered. I’m guessing I needed #2 springs. Thanks

Feel your pain. Tried to find duplicates and they do not exist to my knowledge. John does not sell replacements, they weakened rather quickly anyway, possibly I had a off batch. Been using #3 or 4 size music wire, it's a tough fit as you are finding out. The original are 7 wrap these are 8 wrap. They will fit just gotta get tough with them, the spring pin just fits in the groove. I'm hoping does not pop out without tacking with weld.

I measured MB 550 springs and they're close. Bridger 2 springs are too big.

Adding to that right or wrong I'm using those as a 2 coil set up. I messed with mb 550 springs along with the helpers that came with the traps,in a 4 coil set up and wasn't to bad. I just have issues with that loose jaw 4 coiled. I talked with john's wife when I ordered the last 2 dozon about parts and or springs. It seems they are not readily available separately.

Thanks guys, that really does help explain things. I stopped after I did one, but I’ll try a couple more now and see if I can get them settled in. I’m not sure who I talked with when I called the number on John’s site. She wasn’t sure which size they were, but she did say they can send me replacement springs. I should have just ordered them from John in the first place, but I just figured I’d throw them on an order with my snare making stuff.

We DO have replacement springs. We also have springs to make them 4 coil. Most trapping supply places are selling generic 'one size fits all' type springs. It would be hard to ask any dealer exactly what traps any spring fits, in my opinion, no fault of Dakotaline.

Thanks John! Yes, I believe it was your wife that I talked with, and she let me know you did have springs. No fault to Dakotaline, I assumed #3 springs fit #3 traps, while I was ordering snare supplies. It was my fault and should have known better than to assume. I'll get a hold of you for an order, once I make sure I can undo what I did when I squeezed these other springs on a couple traps. I'll probably need a couple bottles of lure to even out the shipping box too.

John, my apologies for putting on here you did not have replacement springs. When I called last year wanting to put new ones on the 4 and half doz. traps I had, was told not by you they were not available. This summer when ordering 2 dozen more traps, I asked again and was given same answer. Glad you chimed in.

I think I'm reading this right that the spring pins are too short that they barely extend from the frame.

If that's the case J C O'Conners sells pins made for 4 coiling that would stick out farther. The pins are 2.5" wide where they go through the frame. It's kit #12. 60 cents each. They fit #3 Montys,Montanas and Northwoods.

But if the pin is 3" wide look at kit #8. It doesn't say it will fit #3 Montanas but it does say it fits #3 Northwoods just like the 2.5" pin does.

The way I see it if the 2.5" pin fits Montanas and Northwoods and the 3" pin fits Northwoods it should fit the Montanas.

Look under Taos springs for the pins.

Hope this helps.

Brad
