Grind it up and mix with some glycerin. That's all you need. You can add a few drops of the castor oil in it, too.

Pretty much what Ditchdiver said.

I "grind" mind with a cheap coffee grinder I got somewhere. This isn't for big productions lure making just a few castors a year to keep me going. I hang the castor and let it dry for a few days. Somewhat dried castor seems to grind better. After it's dried awhile I cut it into a dozen pieces or so and put probably a quarter of it in the coffee grinder at a time. It's usually best to push the bits back down in the grinder and regrind a couple times. Once it's all ground I put it in my castor jar and add glycerine until it's about like warm peanut butter. You can get glycerine at the drug store or from trapping suppliers.

By the way, you can just chop up castors with a knife and use the pieces just like that if you need some quick. Glycerine makes it a nice sticky paste and helps keep it from freezing.

Dry castor for 3-5 days depending on weather. Grind the castor and add some glycerine to get the consistency you want. Add some poplar bud oil, not too much just enough to smell. You can also add some sawdust for thickening if desired. This works as good as any commercial beaver lure I have used.

This is how I do it. Cut open and use a stiff putty knife to scrape it out. Any liquid goes in the jar at the same time. I add a preservative and a small shot of glycerine. Can be used fresh but it seems to become more effective with age.
