So trapping season approaches and Im low on funds to buy a premium ketch all. Pictures of good designs that have worked for all of you would be great. I need it for bobcat.
You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

You can get a functional metal pole from most any trap supply dealer for around $25. They will work fine for bobcats or releasing non targets. To me, a reliable catch pole is a prerequisite to setting traps. It is not a mater of if you will need it but when you will need it and they are not something you can run to the local hardware and find.
I got by with a metal pole for several seasons and still have it.

I thought I could make do with the cheaper metal pole until I caught a pit bull, mastiff double, it looked like a pretzel. The catch all is the cats meow. Look online, I got my 5 footer for 75 bucks.
Common sense catches alot of fur.. Pay homage to all you harvest..

I use PVC pipe, clothes line tightener, and 1/8" coated cable. Finally made a new one because the first one I made 8 years ago started getting brittle. I've used it on everything from small kit fox, to releasing mountain lions. Cost me $10 to make.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

Old hoe/rake handle, used plastic coated clothes line and a number of screw eyes. Worked for me. I was going to say about the same thing as bctomcat. For cheap cheap pole just get a solid longer sapling , put a couple eyes screws in the right spots and some ole twine. It'll work. All depends on how much ya got and wanna spend !

pvc pipe and a caulking gun in reverse makes a decent catch/dispatch pole. https://youtu.be/-c6GjG-Sn3U Total cost @ $25.

Going on 6 years.

I got mine for $20 many, many years ago and it has been used a jillion times to release just about anything you can think of. My neighbors have borrowed it to catch stray dogs in their yard, too. Mine is.all metal with a simple release near the end of handle and thick cable for loop. I like all of the bite and scratch marks on mine, been Round the block a few times you might say. This rides in my truck all through season then gets a good shot of WD40 before it gets hung up for the next season. Have someone get you one for Christmas or birthday present, or just buy one and have it for life. About zame cost as a good hammer or trowel, and just one of those important tools to have with you always on the line. Cats, coyotes, stray dogs, anything. Worst thing to release I've found was out of season big boar coon. Not much neck, all feet, teeth, and grabbing, and stronger than you think. Cant imagine doing a release with out a good release pole. Tried an out of season coon release once from a foothold by just throwing my coat on it and trying to hold it down by jumping on top. The coon actually lifted me up and did a real number on my coat. Get a good pole, bud. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
