I wear it during gun season while trapping so I don’t get shot more than anything. I don’t think I have to by law but I do anyways.

I wear orange when I check sets...no fun getting shot at. You should be in the timber when the coyote guys start unloading their guns the bridge on one end, bullets going through trees over you, and they have no idea you are in the creek bottom at all. I got things I still want to do in life and living is one of them.
Plus I figured they see me in orange they think I'm hunting deer or birds and not trapping.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I wouldn't wear any orange down your way.Someone might mistake you for a sign and shoot you.

Jim I'll second Jim"s advice. Only I was on the giving side of the coyotes hunters shooting up a creek. Many years ago when I was in my very early 20s, we had a coyote cross the and heading for the creek 3/8 mile away. It was January. Snow everywhere, and cold, below zero. A bout 20 guys jumped out and unloaded every rifle they had. Coyote kept running. I put my dog on the track while everyone else flew around the section. While watching my dogs the landowner came out of the trees waving. Holy %$#@, what was he doing down there. DUCKING and diving for cover. I knew him and drove down to him. He wasn't really mad but he also wasn't really happy either. That was just about the last time I ever hunted with that bunch. Started callin with a shotgun about then. You never know when bullets could come whizzing by.

No law here just common sense where i live. I always have it on. Lots of guys calling coyotes and lots of wide open country.
Everything the left touches it destroys

Hunting runs the month of November here and you would be taking your life in your hands not wearing it. Never much worried about competent hunters/woodsman but there are simply a lot of idiots running around the woods.
If I am checking a handful of water sets close to a busy road, I usually slip off my orange vest. If you are dressed in drab colors you simply are not notices as much if you are a few yards off the road in a swamp. Probably still taking a chance doing that. If it is a country road I wear the vest for the sake of heater hunters, while checking water sets close to the road.

About 1959, my Dad was cutting barrel-stave trees on land that is a full mile from the good road and 1/4 mile from a very small dirt road. By that time every body had started posting all land around here because of "city" hunters but one guy parked on the state high way and hiked that mile through woods and excitedly took three shots right at Dad who could see the shooter plain, Dad had shut down his chainsaw just moments before the shooting and he was wearing the common red safe hunting shirt of the time- no international/florescent/safety/hunter orange in those days. It ended with no casualties, but the same day we went to town bought every single Keep Out and No Trespassing sign available and posted all the neighbors land that hadn't yet been posted. How could someone not hear a chainsaw and how could a man in a red shirt be mistaken for a deer? The guy had never been in the woods before, was raised in K. C. and of course this before any Hunters Ed. Dad said that when the guy realized what happened he was sick, puked, and sorry. I have worn Orange all winter ever since they invented it, building fence looking for cows, cutting fire wood , trapping or going to town I wear some orange, although I think the new safety green is easier to see and shows up farther in the woods, evening summer. Some form of hunting season lasts all winter with just a day or two between the types of shooting.
If you need a law to tell you to wear orange during gun season, you shouldn't be out there either. Hello Darwin.

When I was a kid we wore red in rifle season. You would see a lot of red plaid coats and hats. First time I saw blaze orange a cousin had a cap that color. That night after supper all anyone could talk about was how easy it was to see Jims hat. Even at a distance. Bout 6-8 years later it was the law. There were a lot of mad hunters over that.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
