This will be my first trapping season and my question is about baiting snares. I live in central Florida and am trying to pull coyotes off the land behind my house (almost 1000 acres). Figured if I could at least pull in a dozen I could show the cattle farmer who owns it and might be good enough to access his property. I can snare and live trap so basically just snare coyotes. If I was to do a carcass on a tree ants would be all over it would this have any affect? Any input is appreciated and if y’all have any books or videos geared to southern trapping let me know
Thanks

If you set the station up right, the coyotes won't even get to see the bait.

Each states laws are different, you need to check with your DNR to see if baiting is even legal, and how it must be done. ie: exposed or not.

I haven’t seen anything on baiting for our state everything is based on “opinion.” Example refs don’t mention use of deer stops and we can use power snares. I called FWC main office he says use michigan style snares. Local office says use deer stops, Met a field officer and says no kill springs. So it’s all on what law officers “opinion” who I would get checked by. I have tried to get something in writing but all have ther own opinion on how to trap

I use bait and lures not all the time but I will use it when I need to pull the critters. meaning to a smaller area not trying to pull off another property. With fox and coyote it is better to be off the baits on the trails coming to the baits. baits work best if the critters are already there not pulling them.

Hanger read your regs carefully. Most states with exposed bait laws give a specific distance traps or snares must be from the bait. You don't want to set right on it anyway. Find out what is legal to use. If a warden is giving you bad information I would avoid letting him know anything about what and where your doing it. Do every thing the regs say to do.

Not to hijack. But if that's the case then you go off what's in your regs. If its not in the book then your not informed. Trust its really helped our officers. To be properly educated.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

I like burryed baits the best.Have been using the same locations for 35 years or more.

When cold rolling or new locations. I will put some KRYPTINOTE (my call lure) up off the ground about 6-10 feet.
