Do they really help reduce pullouts, damage, etc.? Your opinion. Have you noticed any difference if you placed them on or took them off your traps? I have them on all my coyote traps but at this time I don’t want to go without them.

I haven't used them enough to really say one way or the other, but putting them on sure doesn't hurt anything, either.

I had them on and then took them off as an experiment. I didn't notice any decrease in my catch.

Northwoods used to put them on their 13/4's,very lightweight and they disappeared after the first coyote catch, coyotes would chew and pull on them stretching them to 3 x their original size, some you would find in the debris, some I have no idea where they went.I think the concept is good,Connors makes the best from what I've been told.

I have 5 dozen Jakes with them. I’m rigging up 3 dozen Jakes without them. I’m probably wrong, but I thought they were originally promoted for the welfare of the trapped animal. Reducing leg injuries and then promoted as reducing pullouts and stake pumping.

No you're not wrong.I forgot about the Jakes. And both reasons you gave are legit. Not trying to be a hypocrite, because the only traps I own with them on are Jakes. But I think they're a good idea.

They help a lot- the coyotes do not hit the end of the chain with as much force. They can't really hit it hard and pop out- In my opinion they are money savers too.

Just passin through

I use the JC Conner shock springs on all my coyotes traps. I don't weld my j-hooks, and the shock springs are insurance against the j-hooks opening up. So far so good. I've even put them on my 450s and haven't had a coyote pull out of those either. At a little more than a dollar a piece, it's money well spent for my peace of mind.

They're definitely not necessary but I like them. As said, the coyote doesn't hit the end of the chain as hard with them. They probably help more with stake pumping than anything else. I even put the little stop shocks on my dog proofs.

Bought four dozen from the very nice Conner ladies at the NTA. Putting them on 3N’s and MB 650’s.

I have yet to see the need.

Especially when drags are used.

When I get time I'll be taking off and selling 7 or 8 dozen. The traps without them always seem to get used first.

I believe Slim Pedersen on this topic. He said if you have a good trap and a little longer chain, its good for the coyote to end the end of the chain solid without a spring as it isn't comfortable for them so they don't do it over and over.
