I'm a history buff and this is very interesting to me. I was also trained in ASW and did two tours on destroyers to SE Asia. Submarine warfare is interesting.

I had an uncle in subs in WW2. He had a bunch of glossy 8x10's taken through the periscope of German ships vertical in the water and down by the stern, they had just torpedoed.

A close navy friend of my, was on the USS Darter and he have DBF as his term. The SS was a give away of the type of sub it was. Just like the S is.
