I trap fishers with a 160 in a 8x8 box on the ground. NY season for fisher and marten is the month of November. So there’s not really a reason for me to put it up in a tree as there isn’t much snow, and the general idea is that a meal on the ground is easier than up a tree.

I have never trapped marten before, should I change my methods?
Would I be better off with 120s?

The reason for putting the set up in a tree has nothing to do with snow. It is to protect the captured animal from rodent and squirrel fur damage. 120 Belisle magnums in a box up in a tree will be fine for both fisher and marten.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

I hadn’t heard that mouse and squirrel problem before. But it makes sense.
I do have some belisle 120s so I will use those.
Thanks for the help.

Around here trapping Marten on the ground is frowned on. They say too many females are caught on the ground, that putting traps up 4ft or more catches mostly males. I'm not a marten trapper and cannot say for sure.

Setting high and keeping the dead marten suspended is to keep the marten from being clipped by rodents, like Tomcat said.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
