I am thinking about trying some this year. Was wondering the best type and how long do I need. Trap coon coyotes Bobcats and fox. Can I use one size or do I need different ones for different animals. Thanks for your help.

I use the 12” Super Stakes for everything. Easy to drive into wet Georgia red clay...but takes a drill to get out! And if it’s been dry forget it. I always wait until after a good soaking rain to pull and sometimes have to drill as deep as I can and wait until the next rain to get them. In other words, they’ll hold whatever you catch if your soil is similar to ours.

I like wolf fangs. I use 18in chain for yotes in sandy soil.
The cables sometimes stick up and can be a pain. I made some half chain and half cable they worked great.

The cheapest option is a pogo i think. I have broken cable before pulling them in certain situations. Sometimes they pull ok and undamaged, sometimes they are folded in half. If you make your own im guessing you could do them for about a quarter apiece. I have reused pogos on my water traps for about 5 years so far.

I use Wolf fangs with 3/32 cable about 15 inches long. They have held wolves with no issue. I purchased F&T's puller and get a few years use out of them.

Make a variety of lengths, Since you're trapping a mixed species line and will probably have a variety of soil conditions and/or water conditions that you'll encounter you can pick one the right length.

In the dead of winter in open country I could hold a coyote with probably a few inches of cable on a wolf fang so long as I can actually get the anchor in the ground. Early on trapping a slough bottom for coon and I'll want them as long as my driver.

Same here. We have some really boney soil around here and the Super Stakes hold up well when you hit a rock...and you're going to hit a rock.

Chain Super Stakes are awesome, and would hold just about anything in the GA woods. However when pulled they fill up with dirt, mud, and everything else. I am in process of switching out my super stakes to Wolf Fangs, and strongly believe that is a combination that will not be beat.

Also to note, I put a good tack weld at each J Hook, and S Hook. You can pull and pull and pull some more, and they ain't coming undone.

If you use cable, you can attach your earth anchors with a fixed loop or an adjustable loop. If you use an adjustable loop, you can use it like an extension cable when needed by opening the loop and passing the trap through it. Dog proof traps come to mind...

Whatever you get, purchase a quality driver and save yourself the trouble of figuring out that quality drivers are worth starting with...
