You'd have to freeze or smush them up so any preservatives can permeate the entire batch.

Guthooked that is a lot of apples! First raccoon I ever cought was actualy on a muskrat float baited with a slice of apple.That was fifty years ago.

Mike Marsayada had a couple of articles in the Trappers Post about making bait from fruit. Going by memory, but I think he said chop up the fruit, put it in a quart glass jar, add a cup of sugar and store in a cool dark place for a month. You should have some juice (which is fermented) and some solids. Add to your lure or use as is. Lazarus I’ve got a batch made with black raspberries fermenting now per Mikes directions, should be ready here in a couple more weeks. Wasn’t sure if the apple would cure and ferment the same way or not.
