What do you wanna know?
Most all trapping questions on here usually get a good number of serious responses from a good cross section.

Perhaps he thought that Trapper Talk was the only forum available here. Maybe he should check out strictly Trapping???? https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/25/1/trapping-only

^^^ is exactly what would happen if the forum were to get "serious" 24/7 without a diverse group to post. There's a reason the majority of the "serious" forums are filled with empty buildings, overgrown landscape's where as if you happen to be in the right state tumbleweeds get caught up on a few "serious" questions here and there. The times are changing whether you like it or not, if you fail to board the mothership it will leave without you.

Paul... his post is in "strictly trapping" or "trapping only". cool

SkyeDancer.... You take what you can get around here. I've posted a serious question or two and get some serious answers now and then..... then it kinda turns into not so serious. It just is what it is. This site is useful, you just have to understand that it's not the end all be all to all things trapping. Gotta go outside the site sometimes to get what you're looking for. If you understand that, you're good. grin

You can seriously bury yourself in the archive sections as well. It's quiet, the stacks smell so good, nobody there to bother you, and the vast wealth of trapper knowledge is priceless. smile

Well that was about 50% useful. I don't come in here for a social hour. I am fully aware that there are many of you who have a lot of knowledge to share and that's what I look for. When I have a serious question or need i ask and will continue to, as well as sharing what I can to help others.

I would say if you have a question to ask just ask it. If your looking for specific info look in archives or do a search. If you don’t like a topic or answers to a topic go to the next topic. Can’t be serious all the time. If a topic starts to stray I just leave or read on for the entertainment value. crazy

If you're serious about learning, you need to do more than simply ask questions and expect the information you receive to be useful and reliable. Good questions come from your own prior work in understanding what it is your looking for, both in the field and at "your desk" so to speak, and then you can formulate those questions out of that prior work.

I wasn't kidding when I suggested pouring through the archives. The actual work of problem solving and doing your own research is ITSELF a fundamental part of understanding, whether in trapping or any other vocation. In other words, know beforehand that you have a good, solid question, and then when you ask it you'll be able to sort out the good from the bad answers. Or better yet, it'll generate more fruitful questions and useful ways of approaching future roadblocks.

Okay, so that came off as a bit preachy, but it's the only shortcut that actually works.

Should have tried getting info back in the 70s. They would give up their first-born before giving me any help.

I will take this opportunity to answer your question as succinctly as possible. From my experience, NO.
If one really wants to get drug deep into the weeds, away from the original topic, one would do exactly what you have just done, ask a bizarre question like yours.
Most of us are not scientists nor robots. We are trappers. Trappers come with baggage, some more than others. If the likes of us is not your cup of tea, I can only suggest that you either loosen your reins a bit, or search the internet for a different trapping site. I am certain that Mr. Dobbins will refund your membership fee in full.

Thats the thing with any forum, and I've been on and been in charge of a lot of them, is that all questions are not created equal. You can see the same exact question asked a hundred times and sometimes it gets a few answers, sometimes it blows up and sometimes it turns into "Camelot is a silly place". A lot of it just depends on how a question is asked. More specific questions tend to get better answers. General questions tend to get a lot of meandering answers that arent all that useful.

If you're wanting to see someone make a post detailing some method so it becomes a tutorial, those kind of posts are fairly rare since we are now at what, the 20+ years of TMan? Between the archives and all the books and videos and youtube, new innovations in techniques are harder and harder to come up with. Plus most trappers, or any other field for that matter, arent in the habit of just vomiting up information on a whim. One of the reasons I am impressed with the guys that can routinely give Demos at conventions and other shows. Its hard to vomit that stuff up on command unless its something that you've been wanting to get off your chest for a long time. Myself, i've always been a give me a question and ill go with it because I now know what the audience wants.

And hey joking and laughing is the greatest part of this forum. My stupid thumbs slip sometimes and it always makes me smile at the smart alek responses when something gets typed I didn't mean to type with my phone keypad.
Or when I dont phrase something in such a way that it cant be construed to have more than one meaning...especially if it has a really funny other meaning.
I always figured humor was a decent sign of intelligence.
Funniest thing I ever see on here is when someone posts a pic of an object and asks what it is to this group. Pig castrator has to be the #1 response for most objects. grin
Yes, when I need info the archives are awesome. I've learned so much just by doing searches and spending the time to read what I find.
But if I want a good laugh, I know I just need to post a pic of something sharp or pointy and I already know what some of the community will tell me what it is! grin
Love this forum!
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
